Sydney Water’s Castle Hill Water Recycling Plant is undergoing a major upgrade as part of the North-West Treatment Hub, a program designed to connect the Castle Hill, Rouse Hill and Riverstone plants into a more efficient and resilient network. Abergeldie has been appointed as principal contractor, with the project due for completion in 2026.

This upgrade is more than just an infrastructure improvement; it is a significant investment in both environmental sustainability and community wellbeing. The redesigned facility will feature new inlet works, sedimentation covers, advanced treatment zones, tertiary filtration and improved chemical dosing systems. These changes will expand capacity and strengthen the reliability of wastewater services for a growing population, while also addressing two of the most pressing concerns for nearby residents—odour and noise. The project is also focused on improving local waterway health, ensuring that creeks and catchments downstream of the facility benefit from cleaner, higher quality water.

Central to achieving these outcomes is CleanTeQ Aromatrix, engaged to design, manufacture, supply, install and commission the plant’s odour control system. Drawing on decades of experience in the field, CleanTeQ Aromatrix is delivering an integrated solution that combines bio-trickling filtration, mist elimination, activated carbon polishing and reliable extraction, supported by nutrient dosing and optional inlet works covers with ducting. This layered approach ensures odorous air is captured at the source and treated thoroughly before release, minimising emissions and protecting surrounding communities.

For CleanTeQ Aromatrix, the Castle Hill upgrade is a reflection of its ongoing commitment to creating safer, cleaner air wherever it operates. The company’s technology is designed not only to meet strict environmental standards but also to provide peace of mind to communities living alongside essential wastewater infrastructure. By reducing odour impacts, CleanTeQ Aromatrix helps foster stronger trust between operators and residents, reinforcing the social licence that underpins all major infrastructure projects.

Looking ahead to 2026, the Castle Hill Water Recycling Plant Upgrade is set to stand as a benchmark in sustainable wastewater treatment. It will showcase how advanced engineering, renewable energy integration and specialist odour control can work together to create infrastructure that is reliable, environmentally responsible and community focused. With Abergeldie overseeing construction and CleanTeQ Aromatrix safeguarding air quality, the project demonstrates the value of collaboration in building a cleaner, more sustainable future for Sydney’s north-west.
